A Story About YOU

I want to tell you a story that happened just two weeks ago. As part of our process to select a new campaign, JFREJ invited input from our ally organizations – membership organizations led by low-income, people of color, and immigrant communities. We got a tremendous response. Executive directors, lead organizers, and board members from 10 powerful organizations came to the JFREJ office. We asked them, “What do you see as JFREJ’s key role in movements for racial and economic justice in New York? and boy, did we hear a mouthful!

  • “You build deep relationships across and within race and class lines.”
  • “You create spaces in synagogues and other Jewish institutions for these issues to reach people.”
  • “You go far beyond preaching to the choir – you reach Jews who didn’t before connect to our movements.”
  • “You educate your membership and prepare them for the long fight.”
  • “You create a model for other ally organizations – you demonstrate a powerful way to be self-sustaining.”
  • “You can mobilize! Your members turn out in droves for our actions.”
  • “You demonstrate continued dedication to the struggle.”

I tell you this story because it’s a story about YOU. Your commitment to JFREJ makes this work possible – and always has. As we enter the new Jewish year, we are at a pivotal time for JFREJ. The membership is engaged in a new campaign selection process, the Shalom Bayit: Justice for Domestic Workers Campaign is piloting two transformative projects in Park Slope and the Upper West Side, the Grace Paley Organizing Fellowship is about to begin, and our work against Islamophobia is as critical as ever. Now is the time to renew your commitment to JFREJ.
