At JFREJ’s June Neighborhood Groups meetings, we’re going to get out the vote! This is a chance to build community, learn about the stakes of this election, and get trained in a foundational element of organizing – canvassing and phonebanking. Join the Manhattan Neighborhood Groups to door-knock for Eli Northrup, a TJV-endorsed candidate (and JFREJ member!) running for State Assembly to represent the Upper West Side & Morningside Heights.
The Manhattan neighborhood groups are opting for one virtual option and one in-person option -- feel free to join both if you're interested! [This page is the sign-up for our in-person option. You can find details & RSVP here for the virtual phonebank on Thursday 6/20.]
What to expect at our Sunday, June 23rd meeting:
- We'll meet in the park at 10am for breakfast, coffee, and socializing.
- At 10:30am, a representative from Eli's campaign will meet us. Together, we'll get grounded in the stakes of the race, especially as progressive Jews. Then, we'll get trained on how to have a persuasive conversation with a voter, ask and answer questions about issues that might come up in the neighborhood, and practice using the canvassing mobile app.
- Then, we'll head out in pairs, and knock doors! (note: this is the one part of the event with some indoor interaction, where we can stay masked while having a 2-3 minute conversation at someone's door. There can be an all-outdoors option if needed, let us know in the RSVP form.)
- We'll come back together at the end to debrief as a team, share any funny stories, and learn from each other's experiences.
Please bring a fully charged cell phone and a mask, and wear any JFREJ gear you have!
Note: this is not exclusive to neighborhood group members, so feel free to invite your friends to RSVP and join.
