Join Lab/Shul, Romemu, and JFREJ along with our multifaith partners (the Church Center of the UN, Judson Memorial Church, Muslim CommunityNetwork, and St. James Presbyterian Church, as we work to rise together from the rubble of destructive hatred, injustice and violence. The 9th of Av is Judaism's saddest day, marked each year by fasting and lamenting in commemoration of exile, destruction and ongoing persecutions.
This year, we witness and experience the rubble of our personal and public lives, still in the throes of a pandemic, political divides and harmful laws, and the national reckoning with enduring racism and discrimination. Specifically, we lift up the plight of homeless folks in NYC - Black and brown people overwhelmingly impacted, in this pandemic.
We amplify the #JulyHomelessRights campaign and call for the city to ensure folks are vaccinated, pause the transfers from hotels back into shelters, and give the time and resources needed to implement Intro 146 and help folks rise from rubble, using the NYC vouchers. We gather on this day, overlooking the NY Harbor, with faith leaders, activists, artists, as we lament together, decalcify our hearts, dissolve apathy and revisit prophetic promises of hope. Together we recommit to the work of reclaiming a more just, safe and healthy life for all.
