Join us to do in-person outreach to New York City Council Members as they arrive at City Hall on May 19th. We will lobby them about investing in robust community-based programs to prevent hate violence. We and our allies know that the only effective solution to hate violence and bias incidents is in our communities, not in more policing and prosecution.
Freedom to Thrive Outreach to Council Members
This cycle, we are calling on the Council to fund:
- Approaches that prevent hate violence through education and community-building, interrupt hate violence, through community-based upstander/bystander trainings and rapid response at the local level, and repair through restorative justice, counseling and peer-support.
- Mental health infrastructure that accounts for pre-crisis, in-crisis, and post-crisis needs and care, that is grounded in a comprehensive, person-centered understanding of health and wellbeing, and that is delivered by peers, health and social care providers rather than the police. Specifically, we are calling for robust funding for New York City's clubhouses.
