On October 7, in the midst of the Days of Awe, Jews across the country will come together to mark 365 days since Hamas militants killed 1,200 Israelis and took hundreds of hostages, and the Israeli government began a year of massacres in Gaza, killing tens – perhaps hundreds – of thousands of Palestinians. We know this violence did not begin on Oct. 7, and we will hold one another through immense grief for every life stolen, and make t'shuvah – reckoning with who we have been this past year and who we will be in 5785.
