In recent weeks we have seen the new administration’s hateful rhetoric evolve into ugly reality with executive orders and sweeping policies that make xenophobia, transphobia and Islamophobia the law of the land. We have seen escalating hate violence across the country, including against our own Jewish communities. Just this weekend vandals destroyed hundreds of headstones at a Jewish cemetery in Philadelphia, mirroring a similar attack in St. Louis.
But at the same moment we have witnessed an extraordinary wave of resistance rise up to confront hate with hope. We have been filled with pride again and again as this community joined so many others in the streets and at town halls and on the phones — taking action for justice at every turn. And we are moved to tears by the love of our Muslim family, led by Linda Sarsour, and Tarek El-Messidi, who raised over $100,000 from the Muslim community to repair the St. Louis cemetery desecrated by vandals, and Dr. Debbie Almontaser, who published this powerful condemnation of the attacks. We cannot overstate our deep admiration and gratitude for your work and your friendship.
We want to repay this generosity in kind by donating to the fund to repair the Tampa, FL mosque damaged by an arson attack. Please strengthen this extraordinary circle of mutual defense and support by contributing to the fund, as well as to our partners at the Arab American Association of New York and the Muslim Community Network.
