NEW YORK -- Following Mayor Eric Adams’ comment on The View that Democrats comparing Donald Trump to Hitler is “an insult to millions of Jews,” Jenna Rosen, a member of Jews For Racial & Economic Justice (JFREJ), New York’s largest grassroots Jewish organization, released the following statement:

Mayor Adams wants to talk about what’s insulting. Let’s talk about it:

It is hard to imagine something more insulting than New York City’s corrupt mayor using Jews as a political pawn to defend and to curry favor with Donald Trump, while making it clear that he plans to do nothing to defend vulnerable New Yorkers from Trump’s fascist agenda. On the contrary, he’s expressed a willingness to collaborate with ICE, and he’s slashed funding from the same core programs that Project 2025 plans to come after – from education to social services.

New Yorkers overwhelmingly voted against Trump. New York Jews overwhelmingly voted against Trump. And yet our mayor, who claims to represent us, seems more concerned with protecting Donald Trump (and himself) than he is with the needs and priorities of the 8.25 million people who live in this city.

It’s not hard to guess why: Eric Adams is angling for a pardon – or maybe it’s a position in the Trump White House. Either way, it’s patently obvious where his priorities lie.

JFREJ has been a vocal critic of Eric Adams, particularly opposing the mayor’s cruel shelter eviction policies and anti-immigrant rhetoric, his reckless budget cuts to public libraries and housing and healthcare, his notorious corruption, and his authoritarian efforts to build a Cop City in Queens and expand NYPD control over civil agencies.
